Adamu, who was a FIFA/CAF executive committee for a period of four years until 2010, when he was banned from all football-related activities for three years, over claims that he asked for money for World Cup votes, said he is patiently waiting for the world football-governing body to communicate over the matter before reacting to any issue raised.
The former director-general of the National Sports Commission (NSC), who spoke to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, attributed his ordeal in FIFA to political undertone, saying he has done nothing wrong.
“I feel I should let people know what has happened before and that was why I have come out with documents to clear the issue of asking for money for World Cup votes. They were talking about coming to Nigeria to build pitches and I said to them ‘why not?’ If you want to do it, come and do it in Nigeria. I will not say ‘don’t come and help us do pitches’ and they asked how much a pitch will cost in Nigeria.
I said ‘it is about N200, 000 and if you are to construct one in every zone of the nation, that is N800, 000 for four zones’. He (the reporter) now said he’d pay the money in cash and I refused, saying it is not about money. I even advised them to but the grass and ship them to Nigeria. Then, he went ahead to ask if I would prefer if they pay cash to me to fix the pitches. I said ‘no’. If you want to build the pitches, buy your grass and bring them to Nigeria. That was the discussion I had with them and no cash exchanged hands.
“Yesterday I saw my name again that they are investigating me but they have not contacted me yet. I am waiting for them and want them to communicate to me before I react to whatever they want to say.
“The issue that happened before has happened and it has passed, but now that they said they are investigating me; I don’t know why they want to investigate me. I am waiting for them and when they tell me the reasons, I’ll react accordingly,” he stated.
