But new claims from a celebrity biographer in the US have the potential to cause more damage to their reputation than even a SOLANGE right hook.
Author J Randy Taraborrelli alleges the superstar couple, worth more than £650million, secretly split up for a year in 2005 because of rumours involving Jay’s protégée RIHANNA.
In his new book, Becoming Beyonce: The Untold Story, the writer makes no suggestion that anything inappropriate ever took place between the rapper and the Bajan singer.
However, he claims the speculation almost led to Beyonce and Jay Z splitting for good. Speaking on US television this week, he said: “Beyonce didn’t know what to make of this, and it actually ended up breaking them up for a time.
“They spent maybe a year apart from each other because Beyonce just wasn’t sure of what to make of the situation with Rihanna.”
Taraborrelli claims Jay Z and Rihanna’s “affair” was actually a stunt planted by publicist Jonathan Hay at Roc Nation in order to launch the teen’s career.
According to Taraborrelli, the only reason the hip-hop mogul didn’t blow his top at Jonathan is because the ruse worked — helping RiRi’s debut single, Pon De Replay, scale the charts all over the world.
The publicist is quoted in the book as saying: “In an effort to generate some interest I began to plant stories in the press that Jay and Rihanna were having a hot romance, and that Beyonce was jealous and very p***ed off about it.
“Am I proud of it? No. There was no integrity to it at all.
“Did it work? Hell, yeah, it worked. It totally launched Rihanna’s career.”
Interestingly, despite the fact the relationship survived, Taraborrelli also believes a row about attending Rihanna’s 2014 MET Gala Ball afterparty was the trigger for the infamous Lift-gate, when Solange attacked her brother-in-law.
Neither Jay Z nor Beyonce’s representatives have commented on the claims.
But if the biographer has got any of his facts wrong this time, there is an easy solution — they can always send feisty Solange to sort him out.
