    Government Commences Operation Stop And Search To Mop Up Arms In Bayelsa

    The Bayelsa State Government has launched the operation stop and search both on land and the waterways to mop up arms and ammunitions used by hoodlums and political thugs during the just concluded governorship election in the state.

    Governor Seriake Dickson after a crucial meeting with the State Security Council, comprising the police command, Joint Taskforce, Operation Pulo Shield, The Civil Defense Corps and the DSS launched the operation stop and search in the state.

    Regretting the breakdown of security, especially during the governorship election, Dickson averred that if pragmatic steps are not taken to mop up the proliferation of arms and ammunition insecurity would rise to its pinnacle.

    The governor noted that now that the election is concluded, some of these miscreants who lack the required training and discipline to handle firearms who used the weapons to terrorist innocent citizens of the state on land and the waterways when they are faced hunger.

    He noted that the essence is to re-invigorate security in the state as it was prior to the governorship election that brought untold violence in our local communities and the state capital, yenagoa.

    Dickson pointed out that at their idle moment the hoodlums could resort to kidnapping trader’s boats on the waterways, abduction of fellow humans as article of trade, as well as robbery and cultism.

    The State Security Council also clamp ban on the usage of 200 horsepower engine by speedboats operators in the state, owing to the acceleration power, even as it approves the usage of 75 horsepower engine by all speedboats navigating the state waterways.

    The Council also urged users of tinted glass vehicles in the state to seek clearance with the State Police Commissioner, Mr. Peter Ogunyanwo for proper documentation in line with security measures put in place to apprehend perpetrators of all manner of violence and individuals with questionable characters in the state.

    To this end, the governor reiterated that no effort would be spared to return the state to peace and normalcy where Bayelsans and Non-Indigent residing and plying their trade would go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation of any sort in all nooks and crannies of the state.
