The mounting volume of passenger traffic through the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos continued yesterday with several intending passengers seen either queuing up at the different airline counters at the departure hall of the terminal or sitting down waiting to be attended to.
At the international terminal yesterday, our correspondent observed that intending passengers; made up of adult, the elderly and children, were either queuing or sitting on the floor waiting to be attended to by the airlines they want to fly in.
The security was tight as different security men were seen patrolling the airport as it is usually done, while some persons whom security agents suspect may not have genuine business at the terminal were questioned at the entrance.
A South Africa bound passenger who was seen at Arik Air counter, Mr Jide Okeowo, said he is not travelling because of the election, but that he has business to do in South Africa, adding that he would return to the country after elections must have been concluded.
According to him, “My family is here; I can’t run away and leave my family here because of election. I would have taken them with me. I believe that the election will be free, fair and non-violent. All what is going on is just speculations.”
On his part, a UK bound passenger Mr Chris Mbatha, a regular traveller said his family is in London and that he was going to join them.
“I travell almost every now and then, its normal for me.”
Meanwhile, the reverse is the case at both the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2(MMA2)and the General Aviation Terminal(GAT) also known as terminal 1, as the number of passengers travelling were not much compared to the increase witnessed at the international terminal.
