INEC NABS 3 CORPS MEMBERS FOR SELLING BALLOT PAPERS IN EDO STATE

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State has disclosed that three members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who served as ad hoc staff during the April 11 House of Assembly election in the state, have been arrested for allegedly selling ballot papers and other sensitive election materials.

The commission also disclosed that two members of staff who could not account for election materials given to them, had been suspended.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mike Igini, disclosed this when he reviewed the 2015 election report in the state.

Igini said the corps members allegedly sold two packets of ballot papers and some electoral materials for N40,000.
The REC said investigations had commenced to determine the culpability of the ad hoc staff in the incident.

“Ongoing investigations will determine whether their act was deliberate or out of sheer negligence. They were given ballot papers of which they sold two packets and were nabbed,” he said.
