Nigeria forward, Asisat Oshoala, has said the Super Falcons are prepared put up a good performance in their second Group D match against Australia in the FIFA Women’s World Cup holding in Canada.
Falcons had a relatively good start in the tournament on Monday drawing 3-3 against Sweden at the Winnipeg Stadium with Oshoala scoring Nigeria’s second goal.
In a video posted by thenff.com, Oshoala, who plays for Liverpool Ladies, said the Falcons are in high spirits and focused on the next match.
She said, “Playing Sweden was a good thing for us. This is because people feel African countries don’t really perform well at the World Cup. We told ourselves that we are coming to the World Cup to prove that we have a lot to give in Africa. We are not doing it just for ourselves; we are doing it for our nation and also for Africa.
“We played out our hearts against Sweden and at the end of the day it was a good game and a good result. As a team, we told ourselves we don’t have to give up and we don’t have to think we have arrived because we played 3-3 with Sweden.
“The second game is much more important than the first. The focus of the girls is on the next match. Everyone wants to win. The Australian side is a very good and tough side. The next game is our target and we are ready to give our best.”
Oshoala said the Falcons had adequate preparations for the World Cup which started with the African championship which they won and ended with a two-week training tour in the Canada, the country hosting the World Cup.
She added that the there is no difference between treatment the Nigeria Football Federation gives to the Super Eagles and what it gives to the Falcons.
“I don’t really see any difference between the Super Eagles and Super Falcons in terms of motivation and preparation. The girls are okay. We are happy. As you can see we went out on Monday and played out our hearts just to tell the word we are happy. We are happy in the camp ready to give our best.”
