Nigerian sprints superstar, Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor, came close to winning the women’s 100 metres final in the London Diamond League Anniversary Games on Saturday but she ended up in second place.
The African record holder in the event finished in 10.98 seconds as Dutchwoman Dafne Schippers won in 10.92 seconds, a new national record.
Ivory Coast’s Muriel Ahoure was third in 11.01 seconds.
Okagbare had a slow start but she powered through in the last 20 metres to run Schippers close.
The Nigerian queen of the tracks is now top of the 100m Diamond Race with eight points along with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
On Friday Nigeria’s Regina George was not so impressive with her outing in the women 400m. She ran 51.95 seconds in the race won by Natasha Hastings of the USA with 50.24
