OVER 1,000 workers of the New Age Global Security and Surveillance, whose services were dispensed with a month ago by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), are set to embark on peaceful protest any moment from today.
Majority of the workers, drawn from the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), were planning to embark on the protest to deplore the non-payment of the three months security contract job given to their employer.
As a result of the non-payment of the money to their employer, Dr Fredrick Fasehun, the workers claimed the development had led to their inability to receive salaries.
They, according to sources close to the workers, planned to trek from Lagos to the NNPC depot at Mosimi, Sagamu, any time from now, to block the entrance into the depot and prevent lifting of fuel and other products to filling stations across the South-West.
When contacted, spokesman of New Age Global Security, who doubles as the vice president of OPC, Alhaji Lateef Lawal, confirmed the planned peaceful protest.
“Why should NNPC refused to pay the contract money of a duly processed and signed contract. They should settle our employer so that our staff that has been deployed to the pipeline since March this year could be paid,” he said.
Alhaji Lateef added that while the surveillance job lasted, the company lost one of its members from Ogun State, who was burnt to death while pursuing pipeline vandals in Sagamu.
