AMBODE RECOVERS LEKKI 25 PLOTS OF LAND SHARED BY FASHOLA'S RELATIVES

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has again overturned the decision of the immediate past administration of former Governor Babatunde Fashola allotting over 25 plots of land in the Lekki area of the state.

According to a report on The Cable, the mass land at Lekki Phase One had been allocated to the Lagos State Water Corporation in 1998 by the then military administrator of the state, Brigadier Mohammed Buba Marwa, while the certificate of occupancy was signed by his successor, former Governor Bola Tinubu, in 2006.

However, the permanent secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Lands under Fashola, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, had reportedly informed the former governor that the land was “available”. It was subsequently parcelled into 25 plots and shared by Fashola who went on to sign the certificates of occupancy on May 26, 2015, three days to end of his tenure as governor.

According to the report, the new allottees were issued the old certificates of occupancy, which had been replaced with electronic certificates by the same administration.

Most of plots were allegedly given to Fashola’s relatives, aides and associates, including Yewande Animashaun, his cousin, who also served as his special adviser on public health, and Wale Ahmed, who served as his commissioner for special duties.

As soon as Ambode assumed office, officials of the water corporation wrote to him to complain that the land belonged to the corporation and that the original certificate of ownership was still valid as it was not voided by Fashola before the re-allocation.
