The command‘s spokesperson, Mr Ebere Amarizu, said in a statement in Enugu, on Tuesday, that policemen from the Central Police Station, Enugu, stormed the location on August 21, arresting the pregnant girls along with nine babies.
The spokesman said that five workers at the home were also arrested and were helping the police in the investigation.
He said that the owner of the maternity, a reverend sister, said she had an approval from relevant authorities to run the home but could not produce any evidence.
"One of the babies recovered from the home was said to be the child of a second-year student of a higher institution in Enugu who got impregnated, gave birth and had to keep the baby at the home,” he said.
Amaraizu said that the police had commenced investigations into the matter.
