Barely 24 hours after a former presidential candidate, Chief Olu Falae, regained freedom from abductors, gunmen, on Friday, again kidnapped a 70-year-old cleric in Ondo State.
The cleric, Reverend Japhet Obafemi, is said to be a pastor of a branch of the Apostolic Faith in Ikare Akoko, Akoko North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
It was gathered that Reverend Obafemi was abducted on the border between Ondo and Kogi states.
A source told reporters that "the cleric was seized and dragged into a parked vehicle along the road."
It was also gathered that worshipers in the church had earlier declared the cleric missing but they later learnt that he was abducted on his way back home.
A source in the church told reporters that the kidnappers have established contact with the family and even spoke to one of our members. They are asking us to pay N6 million before he could be set free," the source said.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the state police command, Oluwole Ogodo, confirmed the incident but said details were still sketchy.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ikare Police Station, Musliyu Sogbade, said the division has already put machinery in motion to rescue the cleric.
