JONATHAN SETS RECORD AND DID WELL IN WOMEN APPOINTMENT THAN BUHARI – FIDA

Mrs Hauwa Shekarau, Country Vice President, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), has called on government at all levels to appoint more women into key positions.

Shekarau who spoke on Saturday in Abuja lamented the reduction in number of women in government, describing it as disheartening, considering the important role women played in national development.

“We expect the government that came with the mantra of change, a government that raised our hopes and expectations not to disappoint us with a complete marginalisation of both women and the youth,” she said.

“The past administration has set a record in terms of appointment of women into key decision making positions.

“We expect the new government to even do more but we are getting below 10 per cent and truly it is a complete marginalisation of women and in this 21st century it is unacceptable,’’ she said.

Shekarau called on President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his campaign promise by appointing more women in key positions in government.

“It is also important to say that he entered into a pact with the Nigerian women before the election.

“So, we expect the All Progressives Congress (APC) government to fulfill its promise by ensuring that we are also given our fair share of appointment into key positions.
