FIFA U17: Avoid Distractions, Amodu Warns Eaglets

    Eaglets celebrate
TECHNICAL director of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Shuaibu Amodu has warned that the Golden Eaglets must avoid unnecessary distractions as they prepare for the semi final of the on going, Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Amodu in an exclusive interview with Daily Sunsports said the only thing that could stop the Emmanuel Amuneke-tutored side from retaining the Cup which Nigeria won two years ago in UAE is off the pitch distractions that usually come when a team gets to the crucial stage of a competition.

Hear the former Super Eagles gaffer: “I pray the players would concentrate on the task at hand and avoid distractions of any sort before the semi-final. Once that is taken care of, then I see the team going all the way. I must say that they have been very impressive so far. They have shown that they have what it takes to defend the trophy with the sweet victory over Brazil.”

Meanwhile, Golden Eaglets head coach, Amuneke has reacted swiftly after Mexico became known as the Golden Eaglets’ semi-final opponent following the Baby El Tri’s 2-0 spanking of Ecuador in Monday’s quarterfinal in Coquimbo.

“We welcome the challenge of meeting Mexico again because we are more or less old foes,” said Amuneke in reference to the double victories claimed by the Golden Eaglets Class of 2013 over Mexico in the group phase (6-1) and Final Match (3-0) in the United Arab Emirates. “I think it is going to be an interesting game because the Mexicans have shown in this tournament that they are a very solid side but we will continue to work towards this important semi final game.”
