Igbo Youths To MASSOB, IPOB: Don’t Set Nigeria On Fire

A Pan-Igbo youth group, the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has warned members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to refrain from actions that are capable of threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.

OYC advised the groups to embrace dialogue and channel grievances to where they could be given due attention if they truly seek the good of the Igbo nation.

“The agitators and proponents of secession, perhaps have not sat down to count the cost of a divided nation, which will borne by the Igbo nation, particularly our youth, whose future and huge investments stand at risk,” read a statement by the group.

Signed by its president, Mazi Okechukwu Iziguzoro, it added: “In the Southeast, the needless call for secession from Nigeria by MASSOB, the treasonable felony being perpetrated by one Nnamdi Kanu under the aegis of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and his Radio Biafra, his arrest and the simultaneous coordinated protest rallies that followed is of great concern to us and calls for caution and deeper reflection for us as people and nation. The hyperactive agitators and proponents of secession perhaps have not sat down to count the cost of a divided nation which will borne by the Igbo nation, particularly our youth whose future and strenuously built investments stand at risk.

“The business concerns of Igbo businessmen and women extend across all geopolitical zones of the country, from the north and south, these meticulously built investments running into trillions of naira cannot be mortgaged on the plinth of unbridled sentimental proclivities, as we believe that President Muhammadu Buhari is a listening leader and we can achieve more through peaceful dialogue.

“Dialogue has proven to be a veritable and effectual tool for dousing tensions and quelling violence. We, therefore, call on the proponents of MASSOB to desist from using guerrilla antics capable of casting the Igbo nation in bad light, rather Nnamdi Kanu and his group, if they truly seek the good of Igbo nation, should peacefully bring their demands to the table of diamond where their grievances can be heard and accorded due attention. We appreciate and support the efforts of Governor Rochas Okorocha in advancing the cause of the Igbo.”

The group urged the Federal Government to also look into the infrastructural and other challenges bedeviling the zone as a step to dousing tension among the people.

“We humbly call on Mr President to pay adequate attention to the deplorable state of infrastructure in the zone and also effectuate a more proportionate employment policy in favour of the Igbo youth. governance. It is our steadfast believe that Mr.President will heed our passionate calls and grant our prayers in good time as we have here chronicled.
