Lionel Messi will not recover from injury in time to face Real Madrid in el clásico, according to reports in Spain.
Barcelona-based daily SPORT has claimed that the Argentine, who was expected to miss “7-8 weeks” with the knee injury sustained against UD Las Palmas, is a week behind schedule in his recovery and “totally ruled out” of the top-of-the-table clash.
28-year-old Messi is yet to resume “continuous running” with just 18 days until the two Liga giants are due to meet. His personal physiotherapist, Luis Garcia, usually requires players to train for three to four weeks after running again.
