There are a thousand and one young technologists and upcoming scientists that have been wasting away as a result of negligence on the part of not just the government but majorly on the society at large.

When such occurs, those who are tired of waiting for the coconut to fall eventually climb the tree to pluck for themselves.

Such is the case of four young Nigerian girls who went as far as the United States of America without all the deluded start-up hypes in Nigeria to present an app they had built.

The girls on the platform of Team Charis (TEAM Nigeria) had emerged winner in a Technovation Challenge world pitch which held at San Francisco sometime in July.

It is based on that feat that a documentary movie is about to be launched.

The film follows teams of high school aged girls from Moldova to Brazil developing apps to address global needs starting in their own backyard.

The winning team comprised of four brilliant girls: Praise David-Oku, Sonam Kumar, Nmesoma Ogbonna, and Grace Akpoiroro as they developed a mobile app to tackle waste disposal challenge in Nigeria. They pitched their app called, ‘Discardious’.

CodeGirl, is a documentary made by an award-winning filmmaker Lesley Chilcott, who directed “An Inconvenient Truth” and “Waiting for Superman”.

The film documents the lives of young women from across countries like Moldova, Brazil, and those in the US, who participated in Google’s Technovation challenge.

In the 108-minute film, girls between the ages of 10-18, get together with each other and a local mentor, before and after school for three months to create a winning app that solves a problem in their community.

Girls from Brazil are seen creating an educational mobile game about preserving water and energy, in Mexico, they develop an app for identifying domestic violence and girls in Northern California come up with an Air BnB for household goods allowing neighbors to rent lawnmowers and other appliances from one another.

Team Charis from Nigeria comes up with an app for garbage collection. Another team develops a drunk driving detector app – the first to equate the effect of a sleepless night with drinking units.

Discardious is an android mobile app developed by Team Charis for the 2015 Technovation Challenge. It helps to solve the problem of improper waste disposal in Nigeria.

The app allows upscale business owners and individuals discard waste conveniently and on time. It also provides a blog space for news and information on proper waste disposal and management.

To sign up for this service, users need to download and install the Discardious App to their Andriod device, create an account and select a location using Google Map to get started. The app allows them to either report a hazard in their environment or request a mobile cart to pick up their waste.
