Delta State Commissioner of Police, Alkali Usman
A renewed cult war on Sunday claimed the lives of two persons while 10 vehicles were destroyed in Warri, Delta State.

It was gathered that the clash of the two rival cult groups (Eiye and Ake confraternities) happened during night fall, leaving scores of persons wounded and stores looted.

It was further learnt that the cultists were armed with weapons, including cut-to-size guns, cutlasses, axes and iron rods as they harassed unsuspecting passersby, including residents of Ejeba Quarters in Warri where the major fracas took place.

An eyewitness, Mrs Mabel Ejiro, said the cultists from Warri/Sapele road and Ginuwa area of Warri metropolis took their fight to other parts of Warri before security agents moved in to quell the clash.

Mrs. Ejiro said, “People were afraid to come out to stop the fight because the cultists were heavily armed as they attacked passersby and motorists. Security agents later moved in to arrest the situation.”

Investigation revealed that what earlier looked like a child’s play later degenerated into a full scale war that eventually made everybody in Ejeba Quarters, Warri to scamper to safety.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident, said the police arrested six persons, who upon interrogation, confessed to be members of Eiye confraternity.

Kalu said the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigation, adding that those that took part in the criminal acts would not go free.
