ISIS Fighter 'executed His Own Mother Because She Encouraged Him To Leave Group'

An Islamic State militant reportedly executed his mother in public in the Syrian city of Raqqa because she had encouraged him to leave the group.

Ali Saqr al-Qasem killed his mum Lena in front of a post office according to the activist group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently.

Her 'crime' was apostasy, which is the abandonment of Islam by a Muslim.

Lena had warned her son that a US-backed alliance would wipe out ISIS and had encouraged him to leave the city with her.

She was detained after he informed the group of her comments, according to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war through a network of sources on the ground.

Citing local sources, the Observatory said the 20-year-old man executed his mother on Wednesday near the post office building where she worked in front of hundreds of people in Raqqa, a main base of operations for the group in Syria.
