Ighalo’s coach at Watford, Spaniard Quique Sanchez Flores, was also named manager of the month following the Hornets’ impressive run that saw them end 2015 ninth on the log after three wins, two draws and one defeat.
Sanchez-Flores’ side brushed aside Norwich and Sunderland before bashing Liverpool 3-0 at Vicarage Road. Their winning streak came to an end with a 2-2 draw at Chelsea, before losing 2-1 to Tottenham after going down to 10-men.
Ighalo netted five goals in that period to beat the likes of Mesut Ozil, Marko Arnautovic, Riyad Mahrez, Romelu Lukaku and Dele Alli to the player award.
The Super Eagles striker scored in the 2-0 win over Norwich and was fouled in the box for the penalty which Troy Deeney converted. He got the winner against Sunderland five days before Christmas, and his double sank Jurgen klopp’s Liverpool.
Strikes against Chelsea and Tottenham completed a remarkable month for the former Granada and Udinese striker, who has banged 13 goals in 21 league appearances for Watford this term.
