Technical issues which left Twitter users unable to access the social media site and led to the service repeatedly dropping off line have been "resolved", according to company officials.
Twitter thanked users for their patience on Tuesday evening and said the "issue has now been resolved" after experiencing several hours of technical problems.
The social media platform first received blackout reports at around 8.30am on Tuesday with some users later confirming Twitter timelines had sporadically reappeared on their mobile apps just before 11am.
A Tweet sent out by the support team shortly after 6pm confirmed services were back to normal and explained the "issue was related to an internal code change".
It is the first time Twitter has experienced sustained technical issues of this sort in its 10 year history.
