Parents Camp Outside Their Son's Flat To Persuade Him To Take Care Of Them [Photos]

An elderly Chinese couple have been sleeping in the hallway outside their son's flat for almost a week after he refused to take care of them.

Zhu Sulan, 77, and her husband of the same age arrived to find the home empty, with their son apparently spending his nights elsewhere until his parents go away.

But the frail pair have set up camp with blankets and pillows outside the door to the man's flat in Beijing and are refusing to leave until he is willing to take them in.

Since gaining publicity, the couple have been offered complimentary accommodation by hoteliers and well-wishers.

But all they seek is a place to stay with at least one of their five children.

Mrs Sulan said: 'We have four sons and one daughter who all know we've been spending our nights here.

'But no-one is willing to take us in.'

Under government laws, grown children in China must support their parents or potentially face fines or jail.

The 'Elderly Rights Law' says adults should care about their parents 'spiritual needs' and 'never neglect or snub elderly people'.

They went to one of their apartments in Haidian with their eldest son last Saturday. He suggested they reclaim the Beijing property from another son.

When he was not home, the parents just decided to make themselves at home in his hallway - and have slept there ever since.

He has since refused to speak to them and the pair have had to rely on their daughter for food and drink.
