He alleged that the renewed destructive activities was planned as an alternative to their reign ahead of the March 2015 presidential election.
The national president of the group, Israel Akpodoro, who made the accusation in a statement issued in Abuja, has called on the former President Goodluck Jonathan to call members of the self acclaimed Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, to order describing them as his boys.
Akpodoro ‘s reaction is sequel to the recent claim by the Avengers, who claimed responsibility for blowing off oil and gas facilities in the oil-rich Niger Delta region in recent times.
According to him, the hostilities witnessed now were planned by the immediate past administration in January last year before the presidential election.
He claimed that, “the Niger Delta Avengers is a creation of former President Jonathan aimed at thwarting any efforts made by successive administration especially that of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, administration.
Akpodoro said the threat was planned at a well attended meeting called at the instance of Governor Seriake Dickson, of Bayelsa State in the Government House, Yenagoa in January last year with all the prominent ex-militants including himself and senior officials of former President Jonathan’s government.
He said the message from the then President Jonathan as delivered by the then special adviser to the President on the Amnesty Program of the Federal Government, Mr Kingsley Kuku, was that ‘all ex-militants from the region should return to the creek preparatory for action should Maj. Gen. Buhari emerge victorious against their wish.
