Rio 2016: Okocha Fears Arsenal May Stop Iwobi

Ex-international Emmanuel Okocha is not sure English Premier League side Arsenal will allow his nephew, Alex iwobi, to represent Nigeria at Rio 2016 Olympic Games. National U-23 team coach, Samson Siasia, was the first person to reveal that the EPL giants were playing hide and seek over the player’s availability even though coach Arsene Wenger had given assurances the youngster would be released for the games.

The club has made a Uturn over the player’s participation at the Games because he might not be part of their pre-season training ahead of a new term scheduled to start on August 13.

The Olympics will take place August 5 to 21. Okocha said Iwobi was keen to feature at the world’s grandest sporting showpiece and football authorities in Nigeria were still locked in discussion with the Gunners to find a way around the situation.

“Nobody knows yet if Iwobi will play at the Olympic Games. They are still negotiating with Arsenal but nothing has been concluded. He wants to play at the Games,” he said.
