A student of the Federal Polytechnic Offa in Kwara state has been shot dead by suspected cultists.
According to Punch, students and other members of the academic community of the Polytechnic were left in fear as news of the brutal murder of the victim, identified as Kazeem Oloto, spread through the campus. The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, alleged that the victim was shot dead by suspected cultists who later dragged his lifeless body to a bush near the roadside. The police is said to have recovered some exhibits at the scene and later deposited Oloto’s body at a mortuary.
The students of the polytechnic had reportedly just concluded a peaceful and successful Students’ Union election when news hit the campus hours later of Oloto’s death. However, the polytechnic’s Head of Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Mr. Ladi Badmus, stated that the victim’s death was not in any way connected to the peaceful Students’ Union election held at the Polytechnic’s Mini Campus.
He also added that the management of the institution ensured the release of Oloto’s body to his family after they had fulfilled the necessary conditions laid down by the police.
