    Thousands Of Schools Shut Across UK As Teachers Go On Strike Over Funding Cuts

    A strike by England’s biggest teachers’ union left thousands of schools shut or partially closed in a walkout over education funding today.

    Tens of thousands of pupils had their schooling disrupted by the strike by the 330,000-strong National Union of Teachers (NUT).

    The action was branded “unnecessary and harmful” by Tory Education Secretary Nicky Morgan as the NUT organised marches and rallies in support of the strike around the country.

    Further industrial action has not been ruled out and the NUT said the government needed to start listening.

    Labour’s shadow Education Secretary, Angela Rayner, called for talks “to thrash out a better deal for the next generation, which is what every parent wants”.

    “This Tory government is letting down parents, pupils and teachers. On their watch, class sizes have soared and the number of unqualified teachers in our classrooms is up,”
