Reports gathered that the abductors on arrival in the town headed straight to the palace of the Oba and whisked him away without any resistance from palace guards or family members.
The kidnappers who came to the town through the Owena River were alleged to have been armed to the teeth hence they operated for over 30 minutes unhindered. Speaking with newsmen, the Chairman of the council, Sanmi Elumaro confirmed the kidnap of the foremost monarch in the council. Elumaro said the kidnappers numbering about 10 came into the town through the waterways and headed to the palace where they met the Oba and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
The council boss said that the abductors were fully armed, hence they could not be challenged by residents and palace guards who watched helplessly as the Oba was taken away.
He denied that the incident had to do with the chieftaincy tussle coupled with the legal tussle that trailed the installation of the Oba According to him “the Oba was properly installed by the kingmakers.” Elumaro said the matter had been taken reported to the security agents in the state, adding that both the Navy and Police detectives have swung into action to ensure the release of the monarch. Meanwhile, the image maker of Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph who confirmed the abduction of the monarch said investigation has begun to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident. Joseph assured members of the public that the Oba would soon be rescued as security operatives in the state were on the trail of the kidnappers.
