Igbos in Kano Protest Killing of Igbo Traders

Igbos in Kano on Wednesday spoke with one voice, demanding for justice over the wanton killings of two Igbo traders, Mrs. Bridget Agbahime and Mr. Tochukwu Augustine Ilo who were murdered by Islamic fundamentalists and trigger-happy men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) within a space of two months.
While Bridget Agbahime, wife of a Deeper Life Bible Church pastor was killed by over 1000 suspected Islamic fundamentalists at Kofar Wambai market, two months ago, Tochukwu was last week Wednesday, shot by operatives of SARS, along France Road, Sabon Gari Kano.
Osita, elder brother to Tochukwu, insisted that his younger brother was killed on the directive of one of his customers who owed him and refused to pay his debt.
According to Osita, “my younger brother spoke before he died; and from what he said, one of his customers, popularly known as Dan Hajia who owed him a huge amount of money asked him to bring more goods for him, and when he demanded for his old debt, Dan Hajia asked him to come over to somewhere to collect the money.
“On his way back to the market, two men on mufti accosted him; he thought they were Boko Haram, but before he could say anything, one of them, brought out a gun and shot him. It was later that it was discovered that they were police men. We are demanding for justice. As I speak to you now, my mother is still in the hospital, I don’t know whether she can survive this trauma,” he said in tears.
Ebere, wife of Tochukwu, who he left behind with a seven-month and two-year old girls was not in Kano when her husband died.
According to her, due to harsh economic situation, she decided to relocate to Onitsha with the children so that the husband can concentrate and build up his business, but a month after her relocation, she came back only to meet the husband’s corpse.
