Five suspected members of a militant group in oil rich communities of Awara/Assa in Ohaji/Egbema local government area of Imo State have been shot dead by troops operating in the area.
The militants met their waterloo during an encounter with special Military Task Force that stormed the communities last Saturday.
The task force were said to have stormed the crisis ridden communities in disguise and engaged the militants in heavy gun battle which led to the killing of several militants while many were wounded.
Many of the militants escaped including their leader identified as ‘Banga’, whose house was raised down by the security operatives.
Spokesman of the Imo State Police Command, DSP Andrew Enwerem confirmed the presence of the security operatives in the communities.
