PUNCH reports that a 20-year-old business administration student was tragically shot dead by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ogoja Market, LASU-Igando Road, Lagos, whilst they were chasing an internet fraudster.

The victim identified as Eldanojie Joseph was visiting his cousin in Iba Ojo at the time the incident occurred. Eldanojie was said to have gone out to buy drinks with his cousin when all of a sudden the SARS operatives, who were on the trail of an internet fraudster, began to shoot sporadically. The victim was hit by a stray bullet and died on the spot.

Reports claim that the SARS operatives dumped the victim’s corpse in the boot of the suspected fraudster’s car and drove off. Speaking to reporters, the victim’s cousin stated that operatives lied that Eldanojie was a cult member to cover up their wrong.

On the other hand, the SARS team insisted that the victim was a cult member and that he had attempted to shoot at them when they fired back.

A legal practitioner and family friend of the victim, Saheed Sanni, decried the killing, saying the policemen must be arrested and brought to book.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, stated that she is yet to be briefed on the incident, adding that she would give more details after the Officer-in-Charge of SARS briefs her.

Just days ago, a Port-Harcourt based blogger was allegedly shot dead by some policemen for smoking weed.
