A witness who pledged anonymity, speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said that the misunderstanding followed an alleged death of a suspect from the area, Ibrahim Muhammad, in police custody. It was gathered that the suspect was detained for allegedly stealing a cell phone.
According to him, Muhammad’s death angered the youth of the village who went berserk and set the police station on fire.
Shehu Muhammad, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed the incident.
The spokesperson said the State Police Command was already compiling a report on the mayhem.
