Kaduna Declares 24-Hour Curfew as Herdsmen Kill 20 in Godogodo

There’s a strong sense of doom and palpable tension in Kaduna State, North-West Nigeria as alleged armed Fulani herdsmen killed not less than 20 persons between Saturday and Sunday.

The marauding herdsmen, who have laid a siege on the southern part of the state for over a year, launched a surprise attack on Godogodo, a semi-urban settlement, in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State Saturday, Vanguard writes.

Police and local residents say Local Godogodo was razed down with a tentative casualty figure of 20, while many sustained various degrees of injuries.

The horrific incident was said to have heightened tension between the majority Christian population of Kafanchan, about 12 km, north of Godogodo, and its minority settler population of Hausa/Fulani Muslims.

As a result, the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Jema’a LGA, Dr. Humble Katuka, announced a 24-hour curfew in the LGA as a means of containing the simmering tension.

Kafanchan is the Headquarters of Jema’a LGA, about 230 km South of Kaduna metropolis and also the commercial and socio-political hub of Christian-dominated Southern Kaduna.

This is the third such attack on Jema’a LGA over the past couple of months and despite repeated pleas and protests against the seeming pogrom, the state and federal governments appear to have left the vulnerable communities to their fate.
