Loris Karius
The Liverpool goalkeeper was handed a starting spot immediately following his recovery from a broken hand in September despite Simon Mignolet starting the Reds’ opening five Premier League games. Loris Karius kept the Merseyside club’s first clean sheet of the season in a 3-0 win at Derby County in the League Cup before starting victories over Hull City and Swansea City. His performance at the Liberty Stadium was concering though. He was timid claiming crosses into his area while his communication needs improvement too. 6/10
Ragnar Klavan
Ragnar Klavan was a surprise signing in the summer transfer window. The Estonia defender made his debut in a 4-3 win against Arsenal and escaped criticism given Alberto Moreno’s horror show at left-back. However, the 30-year-old was culpable in a 2-0 loss to Burnley later in August after a cumbersome performance. To his credit, Klavan looked much more assured in his third Premier League start in a 5-1 win against Hull City. 5
Joel Matip
Joel Matip looks like a shrewd purchase. Having earned comparisons to Liverpool legend Sami Hyypia, the Cameroon international has already managed to tame three of the Premier League’s most-prolific goal-scorers: Diego Costa, Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy. The signs are promising that Matip could be the future of Liverpool’s defence. 7
Georginio Wijnaldum
Georginio Wijnaldum’s performances have been overshadowed by the impact that Sadio Mane has had on Klopp’s Liverpool side. The Netherlands international has added guile to Liverpool’s midfield and has struck up an instant understanding with his colleagues in the heart of Klopp’s team. His groin strain comes as a huge blow ahead of the visit of Manchester United. 7
Sadio Mane
While Matip and Wijnaldum have impressed in the Liverpool starting line-up, it is Mane who has brought Liverpool to another level. Coutinho, Firmino and Lallana are all good attacking midfielders but lack Mane’s searing pace, The Senegal international has provided Liverpool’s playmakers with another option on the ball. Mane has scored three goals and has made one assist in six Premier League appearances so far. 8
Marko Grujic
The Serbia international has been limited to a couple of cameo appearances from the bench in the Premier League. Marko Grujic made his first start in a 3-0 win against Derby County in the League Cup. N/A
