Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has met with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and the technical director of Chelsea Mike Emenalo ahead of Nigeria’s all-important 2018 World Cup qualification clash against Algeria next month.
According to a top source at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the German was in London to ensure the release of Eagles top guns – Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Alex Iwobi – for the November 12 clash and to forge better relations between the national side and the clubs, Vanguard writes.
Rohr so far has a 100 per cent win rate with the senior national team following two wins out of two and will look to secure a crucial third victory when the Desert Foxes of Algeria come calling at the Nest of Champions in Uyo.
Rohr’s visit to the Premier League clubs was confirmed by a tweet on the official handle of the Super Eagles.
“@NGSuperEagles T. A Gernot Rohr in London. Met with @Arsenal Manager, Arsene Wenger and @ChelseaFC’s Mike Emenalo & Captain @mikel_john_obi,” the handle tweeted on Wednesday.
Nigeria currently tops Group B of the African World Cup qualifiers with three points ahead of Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia, and Rohr has said he’ll only invite ambitious players henceforth as he wants increased competition for first-team places.
