Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr, has assured Nigerians of the determination of the players to qualify for the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The Franco- German coach, who led the Eagles to pick the full points in the group B first game of the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier against Zambia at Ndola, noted that his assessment of the players have shown a team that is desirous to pick the group ticket following their inability to qualify for two consecutive AFCON tournaments.
The coach who insisted that the players would only require full motivation from the authorities, said that he is very familiar with the playing pattern of the Desert Warriors of Algeria, stressing that as coach of Gabon, he had defeated the Algerians at home.
He however, acknowledged that the group has top countries with a good football history , even as he rated group B as the toughest of the groups.
“With good motivations, the Super Eagles would not drop any game in group B. They want to be at the World Cup based on my assessment of the players. They know that having missed two consecutive AFCON tournaments, they have no option but to win the World Cup ticket. So they must be careful and not make mistakes in the qualifiers. They are professional players and they also understand the situation.
“Everybody knows that our group is the toughest of all the groups but our motivation is to finish first. We know the big teams in Algeria and Cameroon, but the good thing is that they are not new to me. I have played against them with other countries I managed. With Gabon we had beaten Algeria at home. So we have big chances. But we must all know that it is a bigger responsibility for each player to play for his country than his club because the country is a bigger family. And I think the motivation is here and the players understand this,”, he said.
