The upward swing in Nigerian football has been given additional momentum with news that English Premier League side, West Ham United will be hosted by fast-rising Nigerian league outfit FC Ifeanyi Ubah in furtherance of their strategic partnership.
Billionaire club owner Dr Ifeanyi Ubah in August signed a landmark partnership deal with West Ham that aims to bring a quantum lift to Nigerian football. Top executives of the London club led by the Managing Director, Angus Kinnear are in the country to unveil the blueprint that will guide the hunt for the next generation of Nigerian superstars.
The project which aims to identify talented kids between the ages of 6 – 15 years will begin in December with coaches and scouts of West Ham United in regular attendance to offer technical support, Vanguard writes.

Selected kids will then be enrolled into Ifeanyi Ubah football academy with the aim of harnessing their talents, thus providing West Ham United with a pool of talented players to pick from on a quarterly basis.
“Our discussions since the unveiling of this historic partnership has always been centred on football development, with the discovery of future football stars in a country so rich in football talents waiting to be harnessed top on the priority list,” Dr Ubah told newsmen in Lagos.
He said more details on the next level of collaboration will be unveiled during the week in Lagos when executives from the London Club will be entertaining questions at a press Conference in Lagos at Eko Signature, VI by 3pm, after which there’ll be a dinner with major stakeholders in Nigerian football.
The party then heads to Nnewi, Anambra state on Thursday for another press conference at Ifeanyi Ubah Games Village by 1:45pm.
West Ham are renowned for their strong academy which has produced stars such Sir Trevor Brooking, Frank Lampard, Rio Ferdinand, Joe Cole and many more.
This may be the beginning of the search for the next Jay Jay Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu.
