Reps To Probe Buhari's Panel On Arms Procurement

The House of Representatives has resolved to probe the presidential committee on arms procurement for failing to submit its report after concluding its work.

The House mandated its committee on national security and intelligence and that on public procurement to investigate the matter.

Adopting a motion by Rep Chris Emeka Azubogu (PDP, Anambra), the House said the failure of the presidential panel to submit its report resulted in the non-payment of monies to contractors, which led to untold hardship among the contractors and their workers.

Leading debate on the motion, the lawmaker said the presidential panel, which was set up in August, 2015 with the mandate to conclude its work within 90 days had since completed the assignment.

He said to date, members of the panel are being accommodated at various hotels at the expense of tax payers' money, describing the development as unacceptable.

The motion was unanimously adopted by the lawmakers when Speaker Yakubu Dogara put it to voice vote.
