The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Thursday accused the Federal Government of using security agencies to discreetly clampdown on its members.
MASSOB Zonal Leader, Delta-Central, Perry Akujinwa, made the allegation during a rally organised by the group in Asaba, the Delta State capital, on Thursday, saying that the clampdown had led to the killing of several members of the group while others were being illegally detained in various prisons.
Akujinwa said that there were plans by the Federal Government, through the security agencies, to arrest more of MASSOB’s members and subsequently label them as kidnappers and armed robbers.
He noted that despite the non-violent posture of the group, many MASSOB members had been unlawfully killed by security agencies in the country.
Akujinwa added, “They (security agents) should continue to face those attacking the government with weapons. We, members of MASSOB, don’t carry weapons but are agitating for actualisation of Biafra State.”
He also dismissed as untrue a recent statement credited to President Muhammadu Buhari describing MASSOB as a faceless organisation, adding that nothing would stop Chief Ralph Uwazurike-led group from actualising the dream of the Igbo people.
