A building harbouring foodstuff shops within Cable Point Quarters, popularly called Cable Point Market in Asaba, Delta State was this morning razed by fire. According to people who live around, the fire started around 2:00am in the morning and all efforts to put it out proved abortive. Three people who reside around who tried to put out the fire due to the large extent of goods that will be destroyed all sustained various degrees of injures and are presently at a private hospital where they are currently receiving treatments.
A security man who was however on duty said the fire broke out after a prolonged sparks from the electrical cables’ switch boxes that were connected to the market building. He said he called for help, but they could do nothing has the fire was more than what they could put out.
Shop owners that returned to the complex with some goods this morning were left in tears as many asked how they will start again. Police men have been patrolling in order to scare away hoodlums from coming to feast on what is left.
