"Persevere, Good Days Ahead" - Mikel Tells Iheanacho

Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has offered words of encouragement to Manchester City striker, Kelechi Iheanacho.

Iheanacho has struggled for game time at City in recent months after falling in striker hierarchy behind South Americans, Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero.

The Nigerian forward last played for the Citizens in the Premier League during the dire 0-4 loss to Everton at Goodison Park on January 15.
Mikel who enjoyed a distinguished career in the Premier League with Chelsea, a side he helped win 11major titles reckons the current situation will aid Iheanacho in his professional football education.

“Iheanacho will become a better player after this phase.
“He is a strong lad, a very positive minded being and level headed.

“He will regain his spot in the team, he just have to keep on working hard in training and wait for his chance, when it comes I know he won’t disappoint.

“Every player wants to play and when you are not getting into the match day squad it can be so discouraging. But I have learnt to always pick the positives from every situation,” Mikel said.

Iheanacho could return to a City match day squad for the first time in six games when manager, Pep Guardiola takes his team to Huddersfield for an FA Cup fifth round tie.

The recent injury to Jesus leaves the coach one striker lighter, and the FA Cup match looks a timely opportunity to get the 20-year-old Iheanacho match fit again for the coming challenges in the next few months.
