Sergio Aguero roared back to life for Manchester City, grabbing a goal in their crucial 2-0 win over Bournemouth on Monday as they move to second place on the Premier League table.
Aguero started the game on the bench once again, but an ankle injury to Brazilian hotshot Gabriel Jesus gave the seasoned Argentine the opportunity to show his enduring quality, which he did.
Pep Guardiola’s men dominated the entertaining contest at a freezing Dean Court, and were duly rewarded when England international Raheem Sterling slotted in from close range after good work down the left from the increasingly influential Leroy Sane.
Bournemouth, who’ve been on a slump since the turn of the year, thought they had equalised through Josh King, but the striker was adjudged to have tugged the shirt of John Stones in the build-up.
Determined to end a run of six games without a win in all competitions, Eddie Howe’s men, set a blistering pace and pressed hard, making it difficult for their visitor’s to play the ball out of defence.
The Cherries continued to press high after the break in search of an equaliser and Willy Caballero was forced into a fine diving save from Harry Arter.
However, City always looked dangerous on the break and they doubled their advantage twenty minutes from time when Sterling cut in from the left and crossed low into the six-yard box, allowing Aguero to react quickly to turn the ball past Artur Boruc.
It was over as a contest from then on with David Silva pulling the strings in the middle of the park, and Sane missing several opportunities to inflict further injury on the hosts late on.
