The deceased was a mother of two.
Also 16 patients are undergoing treatment for severe burns due to kerosene explosion.
The patients were brought in for various isolated incidents of the explosions over time.
Out of the 17 cases admitted to the hospital for kerosene explosion, 16 of them were women while one was male.
The Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, who visited the victims at the hospital yesterday assured the government will investigate the occurrence and bring to justice those behind the adulterated of kerosene which causes the explosions.
Asibong, who sympathised with them assured them that government will not abandon them.
“We started receiving this report about two weeks ago, but we realized that, it is getting more serious so, we decided to do something more drastic and I came and found out that, it is even drastic than we thought. Seventeen people already that have come down with this in Calabar only. Tuesday, we had a call from Ugep in the same problem and now we’ve lost somebody this morning, a mother of two children to this same thing so imagine the effect that it is still causing”.
The Commissioner for Petroleum Resources, Itaya Nyong, said his ministry will investigate the adulteration and bring the culprits to book.
