Osinbajo to Flag Off Construction of Lagos-Ibadan Railway Line

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo who appears to have been in many parts of Nigeria in recent weeks is expected to return to Lagos on Tuesday for a second official visit in two weeks, to kick off the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan railway line.
The Lagos-Ibadan railway line is described as an extension of the Lagos-Kaduna railway project, one of the major projects being executed by the present federal government.
The railway line is expected to extend to the Apapa axis of Lagos to facilitate haulage of petroleum products to various parts of the country.
Minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi was at the Ebute Metta compound of the Nigerian Railway Commission (NRC) on Monday to inspect the facility ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony to be performed by the acting president on Tuesday.

The project is believed to be one of many the federal government sought to use a significant portion of its external borrowing for.
Earlier in the year, Amaechi told newsmen that the loan for the Lagos-Ibadan railway line had been secured and that the federal government had budgeted for the counterpart funding to implement the project.
In a letter seeking senate approval for the $1 billion Eurobond which would later be fully subscribed, Acting President Osinbajo had stated that the funds would be committed to investing in roads, railway and the power sector.
