Nollywood star actress, Mercy Johnson Okojie, has acknowledged her appointment as the Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Government on Entertainment, Arts and Culture.
While seeing it as a great privilege, the AMVCA winner added that she would use the experience she had gathered over the years to serve the state.
On Tuesday, the State Governor Yahaya Bello, had announced Mrs Okojie’s appointment along with 62 others in a statement issued in Lokoja by the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG), Dr Folashade Ayoade.
While the appointments take effect from April 1, Ayoade said the rationale for the appointments was to “fill key positions with the right people and to broaden inclusiveness in governance by bringing people from more communities on board.”
The breakdown of the new appointees showed that 54 of them will serve as Senior Special Assistants while nine will work as Special Assistants to the Governor as Federal Constituency Supervisors for the Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB) Connect Programme.
The SSG further stated that the appointments were made to recognise and encourage outstanding contributions to the New Direction Agenda.
Clearly elated, Mercy took to her Instagram page, @mercyjohnsonokojie on Wednesday, to confirm the development.
She said, “I am gratified with the official notification reaching me on my Appointment as the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Kogi State on Entertainment , Arts and Culture.
“I am humbled, as i duely acknowledge this attending responsibility to serve my great state with the modest experience I have gathered over the years.
“With depth of gratitude, I want to thank the Governor of Kogi State; His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and his wife, the first lady of Kogi state Her Excellency Mrs Rashida Bello for this unparalleled opportunity to serve.
“My endless gratitude goes to my husband, Prince Odianosen Okojie, for giving me his consent, knowing fully the sacrifices and adaptations he will have to put up with.
“To all my family, friends, colleagues and fans, thank you for all your prayers and well wishes, I am eternally greatful to Almighty God, to him be all the glory.”
