Boroh Stops Double Stipends Payment To Amnesty Beneficiaries

Boroh Stops Double Stipends Payment To Amnesty Beneficiaries
The Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig. Gen. Paul Boroh, (retd) has said that the office has stopped the payment of double stipends to ex-agitators under the programme.

Boroh said that some of the beneficiaries were receiving stipends and in-training allowances which according to him amounted to double payment.

Boroh’s comments were contained in an electronic mail of Tuesday signed on his behalf by the Media and Communications Consultant of Presidential Amnesty Programme, Mr. Owei Lakemfa.

Boroh stated that the Amnesty Office had to carry biometric verification to match the beneficiaries of the stipend with  those receiving in-training allowances to detect such cases of double payments.

He explained that the while the office was able to detect and stop  the double payment to some of the beneficiaries, others who used their “bush names” to register for the Amnesty Programme and their real names for registration in the tertiary institutions were still receiving the money.

He said that the office would ensure that all such people were stopped from receiving double payment on completion of the ongoing biometric exercise.

The Amnesty office pays N65,000 to all ex militants listed under the Presidential Amnesty Programme while those under government scholarship in various tertiary institutions receive N70,000.
