An Ondo state High Court on Monday, April 10, jailed seven suspected herdsmen for life over the kidnap of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Olu Falae.
Recall that Mr. Falae was abducted on Monday, September 21 by unknown gunmen in his farm located at Ilado village, Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Displeased with the development, President Muhammadu Buhari had directed former Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase to relocate to Ondo to secure Falae’s release, and the elder statesman regained freedom after three days in captivity. After his freedom, the Department of States Services (DSS) later arrested some suspects in a hotel in Lokoja, Kogi state capital, and they were later arraigned in court.
Presiding over the matter today, April 10, Justice Williams Olamide held that the suspects were guilty of the kidnapping charge brought against them. The presiding judge ruled that the recovered ransom, call logs, and identification of the suspects by Falae indicted them of complicity in the crime.
Justice Olumide discharged the accused of the charges of conspiracy and armed robbery, but convicted them on other charges and sentenced them to Olokuta prison without an option of fine.
Reacting to the judgement on Monday, director of public prosecution at the Ondo state ministry of justice, Adesola Adeyemi described the judgement as ‘justice well served’.
