Speaker Dogara Releases Pay Slips, Earns N346,577.87 Monthly
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, has upped the ante in his faceoff with Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State by going public with his pay slips.
According to the House payroll released by the Speaker, he earns N346,577.87 monthly after deductions, The Nation writes.
This comes after Governor El-Rufai decided to go public with his salary on Monday in response to a challenge by the speaker for him to lead by example in the fight against corruption.
Both chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, got locked in a war of words last week when El-Rufai, while speaking at a retreat of the National Assembly, urged leaders of the legislative arm of government to provide a breakdown of its annual budget.
Dogara had retorted that he should take the lead in the campaign for accountability by declaring the amount he earned in security vote, salaries and allowances.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s media office, it was disclosed he earns N470,521.74 after all deductions have been made.
Stating that the budget of state governments are unlike the budget of the National Assembly which is devoid of information, he repeated his challenge to the Speaker to reveal to Nigerians what he earns.
From the details made available by the Speaker Tuesday, a breakdown of his monthly pay is given below.
Basic salary; N206,425.83, Constituency allowance; N175,461.96, recess allowance; 20,642.58 and pay as you earn; 55,952.50.
The ball is back in El-Rufai’s court, it appears.
