A 14-year-old housemaid tried to poison her 63-year-old boss, Nasiru Akinlosotu, with rat poison for scolding her over an incident.
The maid, who is a primary four pupil in Ondo State, has been arrested by the police.
According to the Vanguard, Akinlosotu escaped eating the poison which was applied in his beans by luck.
Akinlosotu’s wife’s, Skirat, had asked the suspect to prepare the meal for three, but she put powdered rat poison in Akinsolotu’s portion
The police source said the victim discovered that beans had a strange smell and questioned the maid who confessed in the presence of their neighbours.
According to the victim, he had even put a spoon of the beans in and mouth and about to swallow it when he perceived an offensive odour and an unpleasant taste from the food.
“I immediately vomited the beans and called her to ask why the beans smelt and tasted strange. But she claimed it was because she added spices,” He said her explanation was not convincing hence he invited neighbours.
It was in the cause of interrogation by the residents in the neighbourhood that the housemaid confessed that she ground the medicine meant for rats that was bought a few days ago by my wife and sprinkled its content into my share of the food.
She later stated that she decided to add poison into my food in retaliation for the correction which I made when she committed an offence.
After the confession, I contacted my wife to narrate the incident to her. When she arrived, she decided to report the matter at the Yaba Divisional Police Station in Ondo town for further investigation.”
Housemaids who are usually at the receiving end of inhuman treatments from their bosses have also been caught perpetrating crimes. Last year a housemaid in Lekki was accused of stealing her boss’ N3 million and other valuables. In Kenya, a housemaid was caught cooking with urine for her boss.
