LIZARD SQUAD ATTACKS UK GOVERNMENT WEBSITE FOR ARRESTING SIX TEENS

The National Crime Agency's website has been targeted in an apparent cyberattack. The agency, which is Britain's national body against organised crime and cybercrime, said the attack aimed to make the website inaccessible to visitors. However it said it didn't result in any breach calling it a blunt attack that didn't involve skill.

“The measures we have in place at present mean that our site is generally up and running again within 30 minutes, though occasionally it can take longer. We think that’s proportionate," it said, adding that the attack is at worst a "temporary inconvenience to users of our website."

Lizard Squad appeared to claim the attack in a tweet from its account.

The attack came days after the NCA announced six teenagers were arrested on suspicion of launching cyberattacks using Lizard Stresser, which bombards websites with bogus traffic. All six suspects, aged 15 to 18, were released on bail.

"Those arrested are suspected of maliciously deploying Lizard Stresser, having bought the tool using alternative payment services such as Bitcoin in a bid to remain anonymous," the NCA said in a statement about the arrests on Friday.
