And now the Italian wants to continue his role as Louis Van Gaal’s nemesis in another classic at the King Power Stadium this weekend.
The former Chelsea boss has led the Foxes to the top of the Premier League in his first season back in English football for a decade.
Since his spell at Stamford Bridge, Ranieri has coached seven other clubs before being sacked by Greece last year after losing to the Faroe Islands.
On Monday he was compared to a Roman emperor returning to conquer these islands by Italian sports daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
But the modest 64-year-old responded: “Let’s say I have returned home. And I am enjoying it at the moment.
"I seem to be reliving my times from Cagliari, Florence and Valencia. We are working on a project. The club has asked me to lay the foundations for the future.
“And I am showing not to be boiled like it appeared after the defeats with Greece. It appears to me that the situation did not improve after my departure.”
Leicester, who just escaped relegation last season under Nigel Pearson, have been sensational since Ranieri’s summer arrival.
Next comes a visit from United for a clash between the top two in the table.
“It is a big challenge,” he said. “Manchester United are a giant of world football and Van Gaal is one of the best coaches around.”
