Wedding Cancelled In Edo Over Groom's Refusal To Remove Shoes

A wedding ceremony was suspended in Benin city, the Edo state capital following the refusal of the groom to take off his Italian designer shoes before entering the church.

According to a report credited to Leadership, the groom made a mess of himself before the worshippers, friends, family members and well-wishers who had attended the event after he refused to remove the shoes he claimed to have bought for N50,000.

Not even pleas by the bride could convince the groom as he refused to heed all entreaties. Subsequently, the wedding was stalled.

A source reportedly said that the church is known for miracles which has led to the influx of new converts from residents in the vicinity, and that the groom shunned all effort to ensure that the wedding took place.

The guests and well-wishers who were at the event were said to have continued eating while the altercation between the couple and the overseer of the church lasted.

The groom was said to have shown remorse after reality dawned on him as the bride also wept uncontrollably over the incident.
“It is quite unfortunate that the groom is adamant.

“We expected that the bride who is our member must have educated him enough. It is not new among our members. Politicians, business moguls who often visit comply with our ways of worship and I must say that what we do here is divine and biblical,” said a senior pastor in the church who pleaded anonymity.
